Betty Sue Cox

Betty Sue (Meyer) Cox (fondly known as Aunt Bea) of Lancaster, Ohio went to be with the Lord at age 80 on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the Pickering House with loved ones. She was born August 26, 1943, to the late Kenneth Meyer and late Fannie (Clark) Green. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Betty retired from Lancaster City Schools where she was a Secretary in the Administrative Offices. She was a prior member of the Red Hat Ladies, enjoyed being an actress in Lancaster Community Theater plays, was a part of story reading on the local 90.9 FM Christian radio station, and was very active with the National Day of Prayer for many years. She thrived by supporting, giving, and encouraging others. Betty was an active member of Faith Memorial Church, dedicated to attending, tithing, teaching, participating with the prayer team, and beautifying with several varieties of flowers and plants around the property. Prior to that, she was a faithful member at New Life Christian Center. She enjoyed helping with the ‘young at heart’ activities and was an awesome Sunday School teacher. Aunt Bea was well-known for her delicious cooking and baking. She enjoyed planning and hosting family Christmas gift exchanges and meals. She relished having her great nieces and nephews over to make Christmas sweatshirts or have a tea party with them – and each of them loved going to her home. She mentioned looking forward to planning a heavenly tea party, and was excited for what that may look like. Betty is probably most known for her homemade cards. She enjoyed crafting and stamping, creating hand-made cards for every occasion, and never missed a birthday. She rarely missed an opportunity to send a note of thanks, loving encouragement, celebration, or prayer for others. If she was blessed by a Christmas card from you, then you know she drew a random name each week the upcoming year and you’d receive a handwritten card letting you know she was praying for you that week and what she was praying for. Throughout Betty’s life, she clung to Jesus and His promises – believing and trusting Him above all else, through each trial, tribulation, joy, and celebration. Her prayers are the same for everyone – that you too would find, know, and believe Jesus and see her again in Heaven. This was her deepest desire even to her deathbed. We can only imagine the countless people she led to the Lord. Betty is survived by her spouse, Bill Cox; brother, Wilbur (Vickie) Meyer; step-sons, Danny (Dana) Gillespie; G. Lee (Diane) Gillespie, Jr.; 7 step-grandchildren; 7 great step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Keith (JoEllen) Yates, Kevin Yates, JoAnn (David) Potts, Mike Fickel, Amy (Tom) Garner, Sharon Steeves, Jim Meyer; 19 great nieces and nephews; 17 great-great nieces and nephews; 1 great-great-great niece; several cousins; and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Fredia (Chet) Yates; sister-in-law, Nancy (Elder) Meyer; step-grandson, Brandon Gillespie; great nephews, Stephen and Anthony Fickel; former husband, Gordon Gillespie, Sr. Betty’s family would like to thank Abbington of Pickerington’s management and staff for making Betty feel welcomed, loved, and at home. We would also like to ensure the staff at Pickering House of Lancaster know each person has been a tremendous blessing. The kindness and compassion shown to Betty has made a positive impact in our lives and will never forget. Visitation to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 4:00-6:00pm and Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 10:00-11:00am at Faith Memorial Church, 2610 West Fair Avenue, Lancaster, Ohio, 43130 with Celebration of Life to begin at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
