Donald Lewis West

Donald Lewis West, 71, transitioned from this world on December 20, 2024, at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He suffered from COPD which ultimately claimed his life. Donald, a twin, was born in Toledo, Ohio at Riverside hospital on January 4, 1953. He grew up on the south side of Toledo and attended Toledo Public Schools, graduating from Libbey High School. He was married only once, to the love of his life, Gigi White. Donald was an avid learner, always reading books about African History, Government, and Law. He received an Associate of Applied Business Management degree from Marion Technical College. He was also a Master Barber in the State of Ohio, providing barber services for more than twelve years. Donald believed in God. He loved to dress sharp! He liked suits, nice shoes, and a professional, clean appearance. In Toledo, he worked at JP Stylz and Fosters Barbershops. In Columbus, Donald worked as a concierge barber for his clients, both men and women. Donald’s hobbies included playing cards, watching all types of sports, wildlife, nature television, and action movies. He also enjoyed jazz music and barbeque. He had an undeniable charisma that drew people to him. He was a fiercely loyal friend, a storyteller who could light up a room, and a family man who cherished moments with those he loved most. Despite the challenges and controversies, he faced with his declining health, Donald remained optimistic and resilient. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, William James Sr. and Betty West; siblings, William James West Jr., and twin brother, Ronald L.West; his son, Donya (Judious) W. Reese Sr; his ex-wife, Gigi White, and partners in crime, Ronnie Hands Sr. and David "Dunney" Taylor. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, the most lovely, London R. Weathers, Sno’ White, and Ivory White; sister, Connie Holt (North Carolina); grandchildren, Raenecia and Donya W. Reese Jr. (California), Logen Love, Morrell Jordan Jr., Soni and Jaide West, Tonee and James Silvera Osley, nieces and nephews; special brothers, Davetti C. Krug, Calvin Smith, and Jamil Whitestone of Columbus, Ohio and many relatives and childhood friends in Toledo, Ohio. Thanks to all who cared for and loved him. There will be a Celebration of Life service held on Sunday, February 2nd from 3:00pm-5:00pm at 1832 W Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43613. Condolences can be sent to L.
