Hazel Lee Chatters

Hazel Lee Chatters went to be with the Lord November 12, 2019. She was born on June 5, 1934 in Apopka, Florida to Ora Lee Bodiford Benjamin and Greeley Milton. She spent her early childhood on her grandparent's farm in Luverne, Alabama where she developed a love for nature and gardening. Hazel spent her high school years in Massillon, Ohio where she gave her life to Christ. She was a faithful disciple of Christ and loved reading and studying the Word, listening to Christian radio (especially Brother J. Vernon McGee), and giving out bibles to many. Hazel worked the majority of her career with the City of Columbus WIC Program, where she met several lifelong friends. At their gatherings Hazel was often the life of the party. She had a God-given talent for money management and she used the gift to sow seeds into many ministries. to say she had a green thumb does no justice to the beautiful gardens she created wherever she lived. She always had advice or a tip on financial matters and gardening for anyone who would lend an ear. She loved history, politics, and reading cookbooks. Her macaroni and cheese will surely be missed. Hazel also loved football and the Ohio State Buckeyes were her favorite. Hazel was a beautiful mother, wife, and friend who would go to the ends of the earth to protect those she loved. She finished she race valiantly and is now resting in her Savior's arms. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Kenneth O. Chatters; mother, Ora Lee Benjamin; brother, Charles Benjamin Sr.; and grandchild, Corey Crable. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Lerry T. Crable Sr. and Jene' Crable Morris (Preston) of Massillon, OH, George Kenneth Chatters (Adrienne) of Pickerington, OH; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; brothers, Ivory Lee Benjamin and Francis Benjamin Jr., of Massillon, OH.; sister, Marva L. Blunt of Denver, CO.; a special cousin, Jesse Perdue; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held November 22, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Logos Bible Church, 623 Hill Rd. N., Pickerington, OH 43147.
