John H. Smith

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John H. Smith (Smitty) from an extended battle with brain cancer and a stroke. On June 28, 2026, John passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his home in Lancaster, Ohio. He fought a good hard fight. He was born October 2, 1960, in Cambridge, Ohio to the late, Harry and Arnetta Smith. He is also preceded in death by brother, Herbert; brother-in-law, Tom B.; his grandparents, aunts and uncles. John is survived by his wife, caregiver, and rock, Tina; two wonderful children, Jennifer (Chase) Kessler and J.D. (Karah) Smith; five amazing grandchildren, Keegan, Kohen, Ariana, Haisley and Jace-all of which he was so extremely proud of. John is also survived by his sister, Judy Brison; brother, Jerry (Dorain) Smith; mother-in-law, Charlotte Thompson; sister-in-law, Nita Hill; brother-in-law, Tom Hill; niece, Nicole (Drew) Stemen; nephews, Jason Brison, Justin (Laura) Smith, Cody (Lindsay) Hill; three great nephews, one great niece, along with several cousins. John worked for Cyril-Scott/RR Donnelley for 39 years until he began his battle with brain cancer. John loved playing men’s softball and had a love for sports. His favorite teams were the Raiders, Cleveland Cavaliers, Cincinnati Reds, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. John and Tina enjoyed traveling to Arizona to watch baseball spring training. John enjoyed being involved with his children and grandchildren’s sports and activities. John will be deeply missed. Visitation to be held on July 6, 2026, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Pleasant Chapel Church of God, 3225 Old Mill Road NE, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 with funeral service at 1:00pm. Private burial following at Floral Hill Memory Garden. The family would like to thank all the doctors and caregivers who assisted with John's care.
