Mary L. Teter

Mary L. Teter passed away on January 10, 2016. Born in Columbus on May 17, 1935. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy “Louise” Wentzel, her husband, James Teter; four brothers, James, Dick, and Ray, Bob Wentzel. She is survived by three brothers, Joe, Jack, and Roy Wentzel; four sons, Don, Dick (Gay), Tom (Karen), and Scot (Crystal) Teter, and a daughter, Dee Teter-Redd (Dave Watson). Mary was blessed with eight grandchildren, Rocky, Travis, Tyler (Janea), Jimmy, Scotie (Kourtney), Timmy Teter, Susan (Ian) Ness, Billy (Mindy) Redd, seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Timmy, Chelsea, Braylon, Brantley Teter, Derrick and Dayna Ness and a number of step grandchildren and great-grandchildren added to her family by marriage. Mary was generous with love and caring, and remained close with former daughters-in-law, Beth Gafkjen, Nancy Teter, and Cheryl Condit-Teter. Special Niece, Kathy Wentzel. Holy Name grade school '53" graduate of St. Joseph girls school. The Catholic Diocese of Columbus gave two scholarships, Mary got them both. One to St. Mary's and one to St. Joseph. She chose St. Joseph all girls school. Mary spent her career working as an associate and later as an independent contractor for Nationwide Insurance. At Nationwide, her kind and loving nature was again evidenced by the many friends she has left behind, among both current associates and Nationwide retirees. Mary was preceded in death by two of her closest friends, with whom she spent many years working; Charlotte Harris, Joan Cooley and Leona Clifford. Mary spent a great part of her career working to develop and mature the Commercial Insurance systems still in use at Nationwide. Her work took her across the country to Nationwide offices and affiliates to train others in the use of these systems. She was renowned for both her systems expertise and the patience and dedication she showed in her training, ensuring that Mary’s impact on Nationwide and all who knew her will continue to be felt for many years yet to come. The Teter Family would like to thank Mount Carmel Hospice. Jimmy & Dee Teter would like to give a special thanks to Deane, Raven, Mellissa, Ericka and Vickie for the outstanding care they provided during this difficult time. In Lieu of flowers donate to Mount Carmel Hospice so they can continue to support families such as ours. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm with service at 7:00pm at First Baptist Church of Gahanna, 520 Havens-Corner Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Blendon Central Cemetery, 6330 S. Hempstead Rd., Westerville, OH 43081.
