Michael Ray Shutts

Michael Ray Shutts, 69, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on June 8, 2026. Mike was born to Lee and Lynda Shutts and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by the love of his life, Teresa Lynn Shutts; his children, Jaimen (Kelly) Shutts and Ashley (Benjamin) McManes; his grandchildren, Delainey Six, Marlee Shutts, and Mason Shutts; his sister, Terri (Ronnie) Jarvis; his brother, Tony (Juli) Shutts; and father-in-law, Jimmy Blankenship. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who became family along the way. Mike spent his career as a proud union electrician with IBEW Local 683 and The Superior Group. He took great pride in his work and in building things that would last long after he was gone. When he wasn’t working, you could usually find him in hunting or fishing at his cabin, out on the boat, riding his tractor, playing his guitar, or spending time at the place he loved most—Sweetwater Landing. He poured countless hours into building and caring for Sweetwater Landing, taking immense pride in the place he created, and the memories made there with family and friends. On a warm summer day, there was a good chance you could find Mike floating in the pool with a cold Busch Light in hand, surrounded by the people he loved most. Mike never met a stranger. He welcomed everyone with open arms and had a gift for making people feel like they belonged. Whether you were family by blood or simply someone who needed a place to land, Mike had room for you. His generosity, humor, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Over the last several years, his faith became an increasingly important part of his life, providing him with strength, comfort, and purpose. Those who knew him witnessed the growth of his relationship with the Lord and the peace it brought him. On his final day on earth, surrounded by love, Mike took one of the most meaningful steps of his faith journey. With the help of his favorite preacher and his granddaughter, Delainey, he was baptized—a moment that brought great comfort and peace to those who loved him. Mike’s generosity extended far beyond his family and friends. In a selfless effort to help others, he participated in cancer research through the James Cancer Hospital, hoping his experience could contribute to helping future patients and families. Even in his final act of love and compassion, Mike chose to donate his eyes in honor of his beloved mother-in-law, Betty, who was blind. Through that gift, someone else may one day see the world through his beautiful clear blue eyes—a fitting reflection of the kindness, generosity, and selflessness that defined his life. To many, Mike was known as “the man, the myth, the legend.” To his family, he was so much more—a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, and the source of countless cherished memories. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the songs played, the projects he built with his own hands, the laughter heard around the pool, the lives he touched through cancer research, and the gift of sight he leaves behind through organ donation. Most of all, it will live on through the family and friends who were blessed to know and love him. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at The Mill Event Center from 1:30-4:30pm in Lancaster, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, laugh, reminisce, and honor the man who meant so much to so many. Until then, those who knew and loved him are encouraged to remember him in the places he loved most—on the water, at the farm, around a fire, or surrounded by family and friends.
