Paul William Delaney

Paul Delaney passed away Friday March 20, 2026. A friend, mentor, sage and sponsor, Paul impacted so many marginalized and suffering people in his years of service, both professionally and personally. Paul dedicated his career and his life to helping people. As a psychologist, Paul served the State of California devising and implementing drug & alcohol programs, as well as supporting families through counseling as a private psychologist. He was educated and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree through the University of California’s academic system. Paul’s career in service spanned over 45 years, with no signs of slowing down. Paul Delaney loved hockey, growing up in Ontario playing on ponds with his brothers. After graduation he accepted a scholarship to Bowling Green to play hockey at the collegiate level. An adventuresome traveler, Paul spent time in the Canadian wilderness and landed in California where he lived most of his life. As a young adult, his years in Lake Tahoe were particular favorites. He’d share stories of waterskiing on the Lake, adventures with friends and meeting Rose, his daughter Jennifer’s mother. Paul would spend the majority of his life in San Diego enjoying sunshine, the beach and serving others. Stories of raising Jennifer in San Diego seemed the best years of his life. This time also involved major contribution to the Salvation Army and 12 step community. Paul lived a simple life in his last chapter of his life, making Columbus, Ohio home. In Ohio he enjoyed planting tomatoes and sharing them with anyone who longed for the best local home-grown! During the holidays and Christmas season, Paul particularly loved decorating the Christmas tree and helping others in need. He is survived by his sister, Debra; daughter, Jennifer, her husband Joseph; and his grandson, Christopher. Paul touched so many people’s lives significantly, was always a phone call away, and generous with his favorite candies; Werther’s and Lady Jane. Some would even say he was quite a shark at playing cards. Paul’s gift, however, was that of giving! He gave of his time, energy, wisdom, and to anyone in need. He fostered the encouragement to live happy, joyful and free; one day at a time. He will be dearly missed. Paul Delaney, “Thank you for saving my life today.”
