Raymond Joseph Chaput

Raymond Joseph Chaput July 12, 1958 to April 15, 2020 Raymond (Ray) Joseph Chaput, age 61, of Pataskala, Ohio died April 15, 2020 at 10:09 p.m. His death came swiftly at the end. Ray had been living with type one diabetes, heart disease, and end stage renal disease. His last three weeks were spent fighting congestive heart failure caused by peritonitis. Ray was born to the late Robert Mark Chaput Sr. and Norma Lee Whitney Chaput on July 12, 1958 in Huntington, West Virginia. He grew up in the East Pea Ridge area of Huntington, West Virginia, attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School, and graduated from Barboursville High School in 1977. Ray and Judy Kay met at a PWP dance in Reynoldsburg, Ohio on December 1, 2001. He called his sister, Katie, and told her that he found the one he was going to marry, and Katie told him to slow down as he had only known Judy for a few days. Ray and Judy were married on Holden Beach in North Carolina on August 22, 2003 surrounded by family and friends. Their sixteen years, 8 months, and 15 days together were too short. Ray is preceded in death by his devoted and loving parents, Robert and Norma Chaput; and Zoe, the cat who loved him regardless of how he felt about her in the beginning. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Judy Kay Chaput; his granddaughter, Layla Journee Oney, whom he fondly called his monkey. They would visit McDonald’s, watch Disney movies, and FaceTime together; his 5th cousins, Bryan and Angel Oney who blessed his life with incredible joy and friendship; his brother and sisters who brightened his life and gave him a reason to be on the phone: “Sherry” Sharon Jenkins, Robert Mark (Patty) Chaput Jr., “Debbie” Deborah (Kevin) Holbrook, Toni Greer, Katie (Mike) Chaffin, and Laurie (John) Nelson; many nieces and nephews; numerous extended family members, friends, and generous neighbors as well as his estranged son, “Joey” Raymond Joseph (Leanne) Chaput II and estranged granddaughter, Molly Chaput. Ray was a success engineer at Ashland Oil and an amazing auditor at Bizcorp. He created a father/child bowling league because of his love for his son and bowling. Ray also enjoyed golfing. He was a Republican to the core, a die-heart Buckeye fan, avidly watched FOX News (when he wasn’t watching Disney with Journee) and had an humorous side that was enjoyed by many. There is surely a euchre game going on with Richard, Vickie, Pat, and himself in heaven. Ray was blessed with countless dear and beloved friends. He had more adventures than most, and these were always shared with family and/or friends that multiplied his fun. We will miss his smile, his humor, his thoughtfulness, his generosity, and most especially his unconditional love. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held later after the COVID-19 situation is over.
