Sidney Clay Ray III

Sidney Clay Ray III, age 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 22, 2022. Sid was born November 8, 1956 to his mother Virginia Scarborough and Father Sidney Clay Ray II. In addition to his parents, Sid is preceded in death by his step-father, Jim Scarborough; cousin, Loretta Roop; special aunt and uncle Ike and Grace Spradling and best friend, Gary Stewart. Sid grew up in Columbus, Ohio and was a 1974 graduate of South High School. Following graduation, Sid joined the military and served proudly in the Army as a member of the Tank Division before being Honorably Discharged due to medical issues. Following his time in the Army, Sid worked at a gas station owned by his step-father for 10 years and then moved onto the maintenance department at JCPenney’s for 15 years. Sid was a Christian man and belonged to Risen Word Fellowship and within the church he served as the Secretary for the Watchman on the Wall Motorcycle Ministry Group. Through church, Sid found a second family. Sid was a very intelligent, well spoken man who lived a humble life. He loved to read anything and everything. He was an avid Star Wars fan and had quite a collection of books and other memorabilia. He loved animals…especially cats and cherished the years with his favorite “mini house panther”, Merlynne. Sid is survived by his sister, Lea Pierce (Tracy) of Columbus, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins, Cheryl Wilson, Betsy Jones, Larry Kelly, Eugene Kelly, Myra McCallister-Sariwatta, Phyllis McCallister-Atkinson, Sonja McCallister-Seacrist, Leela McCallister-Wyant, Ike Spradling, Pam Mourn, Mike Spradling; friends, Damon Abdon, Oscar McClung, Richard Jones and the “love of his life” Mary Welch. A special thank you to Sid’s cousin, confidante and caregiver Kimberly Neal. She stood by and advocated for Sid when he needed it the most. Thank you to the staff at Majestic Care of Whitehall staff (especially Erika, Jennifer and Melissa) and ProMedica Hospice of Columbus staff (Macey, Natalie, Precious, Elli, Chasity, Ronda, Bruce, Resa and Marissa) for the exceptional care provided to Sid in his last few weeks of life. He was never alone and please know, that meant the world to him. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 11:30am at Risen Word Fellowship, 1133 1/2 Williams Road, Columbus, Ohio 43207. Private Interment Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 2:00pm at Walnut Hill Cemetery, 915 Rathmell Road, Columbus, Ohio 43207.
