Betty Eileen Bates (Miles), 84, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 6:30 AM in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her brother, Dan (Terry) Miles; daughter, Vickie Lee Johns (Bates); sons, Robert (Buddy) Bates and Rickie (Karen) Bates; grandchildren, Angelic (Chet) Miracle (Johns), John Robert (Jennifer) Johns, Willard (Donna) Johns, Tabbatha Bates, Nikki Jacobs (Bates), Brock Thompson, Donnie Thompson, Fayline Bass (Crane), Danny Jr. (Kimberly) Crane, Robert Crane, Heather (Bob) Arthur (Bates), Wesley Bates, Shaun Bates and Ashley Bates; multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Mindy (Phil) Dimas and Jenny Myers; nephews, Danny Jr. (Michelle) Miles, Joe (Jeannie) Miles, Michael (Becky) Fontanarosa; as well as many great nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty is preceded in death by her mom and dad, Dorothy and Charles Miles; husband, Robert (Bobber) Bates; daughter, Fawn Crane (Bates); son, Donald Bates; great-grandchildren, Jordan Bass, Skylynn Bates and Dakota Speakman Jr. She was a drummer at Licking Heights High School band. She was also a charter member of Jersey Baptist Church and had served as director/co-director with Connie Andy for the children’s choir. She was a life member of Paul S. Lawrence Memorial VFW Aux Post 9857. Betty was a big sister, loving, caring, overprotective mother, and grandmother of 5 generations. She was a loving, loyal friend. She was truly loved by the McNaughten Pointe Nursing Home staff, nurses and patients. A friend to all. Visitation for Betty will be held at Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Rd., New Albany, OH 43054, on Monday March 2, 2020 from 10:30-Noon with a service to follow. Burial immediately after at Mifflin Township Cemetery, 218 Agler Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. A lunch will be provided by Paul S. Lawrence VFW Aux Post 9857 following the burial at 2330 Stelzer Rd., Columbus, OH 43219.
