Dakota Jameson McQuirt
February 18, 2000 - August 24, 2020
Dakota Jameson McQuirt born February 18, 2000 passed away August 24, 2020. Dakota Jameson McQuirt is the coolest guy in our family. At the age of 20, a tragic accident occurred. On August 16, 2020, when the gun fell off the hutch, Dakota put his 20-month-old son, Xander Jameson McQuirt, behind the door and was protecting his family from the bullet. The bullet entered his face destroying his eye, both lobes of his brain, frontal skull and many face and skull bones were shattered. Dakota was in the ICU at Grant Medical Center for 8 days, alive, despite all odds and medical text. The trauma team said that most people who take a 40-caliber bullet through the head do not even make it the hospital. He was able to do a few things that the team said should be impossible considering how severe the injury was. On August 24, 2020 at 6:38 PM Dakota was declared brain dead. He is survived his awesome son, Xander Jameson McQuirt; beautiful fiancé, Cassie Uting; mother and stepfather, Lillie A. Scott & Michael Duncan Jr.; siblings, Colton N. Scott (Dakota’s best friend), Stella L. Scott (Dakota’s favorite person to annoy) and Andrew Scott (both Andrew and Dakota have a loud opinion and made sure each other knew what they thought about many subjects); grandparents, Eddie and Barb Jordan, Mark and Laurie Samczuk, Flava (Curly) and Bonnie Stepp, Mike and Donna Cooke and Kennith A. Miller; biological father, R. McQuirt; many wonderful, caring and supportive friends that have become family, Ethan Fuler, Sara, Zoey, Taylor, Big B and many, many more; lots of loving uncles, aunts, cousins and many people that become a key part of our life. Many thanks to the ICU staff from Grant Medical Century, the Lifeline team and many others who are keeping us in their thoughts and prayers. Dakota was a registered organ donor and saved 2 people locally. He is a hero for protecting his fiancé and son that day and giving life to others as he was losing his own. He is preceded in death by Becky Stepp, Kimberly Moutes and a handful of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Dakota was a caring, loving, hands-on, protective, never miss any moments kind of father since the birth of his son, Xander Jameson McQuirt. He was a loving, caring, supportive, protective, and selfless dad, fiancé, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousins and friends. Dakota always stood up for what he felt was right no matter what others thought of him. He stood up for others if their voice was not heard. He was a hard worker. Dakota loves being a dad, brother, fishing, playing Xbox, camping, boating, baseball, going to Kings Island, weed and spending time with family. He is loved and missed by many! Memories of Dakota will keep him alive in our hearts. Family and friends will complete a bucket list in his honor … Fly high Kota! You can now go fishing off the moon! Celebration of life will be held at his mother and stepfather’s in West Columbus, Ohio. Everyone is welcome! Please text Lillie for more information at 614-517-2804. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that you please consider bringing his son, Xander, match box cars, push cars or please bring an annual type of flower that will be planted to be seen every year.
