Daniel "Brooks" Greer

May 13, 1937 - December 28, 2021

Daniel Brooks Greer was born on May 13, 1937, to Daniel Webster Greer and Leah Ruth (Markham) Greer. He passed away on December 28, 2021 at Altercare Nursing Home in Somerset, Ohio. Brooks joined the Navy in 1957 and served with the VF41 Black Aces as an aviation electronics engineer while stationed on The Independence aircraft carrier during the Vietnam war. During this time, he also flew over doing surveillance missions. Brooks also served with the Grim Reaper squadron. He later went on to teach Aviation electronics to navel servicemembers. He served for a total of 20 years and earned a number of accommodations during his service. Brooks was highly active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization Whitehall Post Number 8794. After his Navel career, Brooks enjoyed Rally racing. He often volunteered at Mid-Ohio Racetrack, along with being the Grid Chief for the SCCA. In his later years, he enjoyed supporting his nieces and nephews for generations in their extracurricular activities. Brooks is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robin; and sister, Rebecca (Bolton). He is survived by his brother, James (Lee) Greer; sister, Jane (Gene) Shaw; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, as well as Great-Great nieces and nephews. Brooks will be remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor and love for his family. The service will be held at Waters Edge A/G 2249 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio on Saturday, January 29, 2022. The visitation will be held from noon to 1pm with the service to follow at 1pm.
