Hershell Bolton
July 24, 2021
Hershell Bolton, 81, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away on July 24, 2021, after a valiant six-month battle with illness. He peacefully drew his last breath surrounded family. As he was a man who doted on his family, this was certainly the way he wanted to pass into eternity. Hershell was a devoted Christian whose generosity to others served as his testimony to Christ’s love. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who guided his family by his faith-based life. His hobbies included reading, sports, and woodworking. As a young man, he raced cars and only retired after he became a father. Hershell also loved the water. After retirement, he briefly enjoyed living on his sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay. In his mid-70s he traded in his sailboat for a fishing trawler. He and his son spent one summer driving it from Ludington, MI, to Sandusky, OH crossing many Great Lakes in the process. But his favorite pastime was whatever activities his children, and later his grandchildren, were currently involved in. Weekends would find him and his wife, Becky, on the sidelines both enthusiastically cheering for family. Hershell inspired his family with his sense of humor, can-do spirit, and willingness to undertake new endeavors, no matter his age. Although he lost most of his hearing while in high school, he never let that hamper his life. Eventually, he went on to start a trucking agency with his wife. This business employed many members of his family over the years. Hershell was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca (Greer), whom he married after dating for just three months. Together they enjoyed 40 years of marriage. Despite Becky’s passing 18 years before him, Hershell cherished her throughout his entire life. He was also preceded in death by his father Kermit Bolton, his mother Lula (Sears) Bolton, and his sisters Treva (Driver) Bolton and Madelyn (Ken) Thomas. He will be missed by his daughter Treva (Earl MacGregor) Bolton, his son Daniel (Kim) Bolton, his sisters Shirley Bolton and Joy (Neil) Smith, his brother Charles Bolton, his brother-in-law and lifelong friend Brooks Greer, many nieces and nephews, his grandchildren Leah (Chase) Mallory, Joe Matalon, Megan Bolton, Myria (Luke) Bieber, Alyvia Bolton, Nicholas Bolton, and four great-grandchildren. Hershell’s life will be celebrated by his loving family and friends on August 14 at Water’s Edge Assembly of God, 2249 Cherry Valley Rd. SE 43055. Visiting hours are from 1:00 – 2:00. The memorial service is from 2:00-3:30.
