Marilyn E. (Tanner) Neidhart
August 14, 1935 - February 7, 2022
Marilyn Eileen (Tanner) Neidhart went home to her heavenly family on Feb. 07, 2022. Marilyn was born on August 14, 1935, to Joseph and Anna Mae (Plotner) Tanner. She attended Marion City Schools and graduated from Marion Harding in 1953. She went on to Nursing School and became an LPN working many years in nursing homes and dedicated her life to taking care of the elderly. Marilyn is survived by her first husband, Nelson A. Miller, with whom she had her first 2 children, Deborah Kay and Sheryl Jo. Marilyn is preceded in death by her second husband, Edward Neidhart (with whom she worked tirelessly with, on their dairy farm). They shared 2 children, Joseph Edward and Laura Lee. She also helped to raise Ed’s boys, Caroll, Dave and John Neidhart. They had many animals but were locally famous for their buffalo and buffalo roasts. Having many lifelong farm friends, Marilyn enjoyed the get-togethers with the “farm wives”. She also continued to have close relationships with her school friends throughout her life. She was a very social and outgoing personality. Marilyn is also preceded in death by her third husband, Paul Highland. Together, they owned and operated Highland Carpet and Marion Antique Mall, in downtown Marion, Ohio. Marilyn had a passion for antiques and enjoyed spending time talking to the many vendors and customers who visited her store. As a collector of many things, she loved nautical things, mermaids, Chinese collectibles, fish, birds and birdhouses. She filled her house with the things that she loved. Her motto was “I’m not a hoarder, I’m a collector”. She was always busy, always working on projects and loved being outdoors. She had a passion for cooking and loved to share her creations with everyone. Marilyn was an avid reader. She enjoyed music, especially the music of her brother, Joe. She enjoyed thrifting for things that could be refurbished and loved to bring new life to them. She loved so many things, too many to list. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Mae Tanner, Brothers; Joseph Tanner and Loren Tanner, Sister; Florence (Al) Keller. Also preceded in death was her significant other, Donald Carpenter. Left to celebrate her memory and cherish the time we had with her are her children, Debbie (Mike) Shenefield, Sherry (Brian) Foust, Joe Neidhart, and Laura Gorham; Grandchildren, Lana (Travis) Bishop, Jody (Tim) Adkins, Shonna (Tony) Underwood, Josey (Leah) Neidhart and Megan Gorham; Great Grandchildren, Eli Bibler, Laynee Bishop, Kelci (Chris) Thomas, Kaylee Adkins, Colton and Sydney Underwood, and many other grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors and her 2 dogs, Molly & Leo, who will miss her dearly. The family would like to express gratitude to Rita Bosh, hairstylist, who Marilyn visited weekly. She looked forward to those visits and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff at MGH who took great care of her, and Sam (LPN) at Marion Manor for taking such good care of her in her final days. To her close neighbors, Pat and Kelly, for looking out for her. And to her dear friend, Mary Crabtree, for the books that kept her busy and the dirty jokes that always made her laugh! No calling hours will be observed, as that was her wish. There will, however, be a graveside service at Chapel Heights Cemetery on Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at 1:00pm. Marilyn will rest with her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mid-Ohio Food Bank https://give.mofc.org/Default.aspx?tsid=18866 , in her name. Day Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Marilyn Neidhart.
