Marvella Hunter
August 18, 1945 - July 8, 2020
Marvella (Bailey) Hunter was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 11:50 pm. She passed peacefully at her home with family. Marvella was born in Longpole (Iaeger), West Virginia on August 18, 1945. She was the seventh of nine children to parents, Okey and Stella Bailey. Marvella later moved to Ohio and married Patrick Hunter on August 31, 1963. They had three sons and one daughter. Marvella loved keeping a beautiful garden and working with plants. In the summer, you would find her tending to her flower garden or picking fresh vegetables. She enjoyed playing slots and it wasn’t uncommon to find a grandkid with a quarter helping her with her scratch-offs. Marvella enjoyed spending time at antique malls and flea markets looking for unique pieces. She also found joy in hosting holiday get-togethers whether it was getting up at 5am to start homemade noodles or baking all the pies the day before. She wouldn’t have it any other way. When her children were in grade school, you could find her donating her time in the school lunchroom and library. If there was a need she could meet, there was no doubt she was taking action. From monetary collections for families to ensuring every child in her neighborhood had at least one gift on Christmas, she was always giving and providing support and love to others. She was a loving, selfless, caring woman. Regardless if you knew her as Marvella or Wella, to know her was to love her. Marvella Hunter is survived by Chris and Donna Hunter, Stella Leonard and Randy Underwood, Mark Hunter, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren (which she loved dearly), many nieces and nephews, Charles and Pam Bailey, Albert Cantrell, and Kathy Bailey. Marvella is preceded in death by Patrick P. Hunter (Husband), Okey D. Hunter (Son), parents Okey and Stella Bailey, and siblings Loueva Lambert, Annamay Purdue, Freeman Bailey, Virgil Bailey, JB Bailey, Dianna Cantrell, and Danny Bailey. It was Marvella’s wish to have a direct cremation with no service. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later time for her. In place of flowers or monetary gifts, the family has asked that all contributions be directed to the GoFundMe in support of the St. Judes Children's Research Hospital. This will allow us to honor her by continuing to help others. https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-honor-of-marvella-hunter?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1 Day Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Marvella Hunter.
