Walter S. Vernier
February 20, 1928 - January 16, 2022
On Sunday, January 16, 2022, just before his 94th birthday, Walt Vernier died peacefully in his sleep at his lifelong home in Worthington, Ohio. An original Colonial Hills resident since 1955, he was very proud to have four generations of his family build a home there. Preceded in death by his wife Mary, whose cremains will be buried in the casket with Walt as he cradles his loving arm around her urn. Also preceded in death by parents, Frank and Margaret; and brothers, Raymond and Eugene (Bub). Survived by children, Michelle Milligan, Linda Cecelia Panzinetti, and Whitney (Andy) Greicius; grandchildren, Jeremy (Caley) Milligan, Hannah (Brad) Bragg, Danielle Vernier, Jessica (Blake) Ellard and Mary Tapp; great-grandchildren, Luke, Halle, and Nelleigh; and grand-dog, Pepper. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, Walt was devoted to St. Mary's Church and school. A World War II Veteran who served in the Army Air Corps/Air Force, he was stationed in Alaska where he learned drafting which led to his passion of architecture. Walt pursued this passion at Ohio University in Athens and graduated with an architecture degree and license. He retired from a lifelong career in 1995 at the Columbus Board of Education. Graveside service and Honor Guard salute will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:45 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, 334 South Sandusky Street, Delaware, Ohio 43015. If attending, the site is located in the Lorraine section (higher ground, near the middle, closer to Liberty Road). Please look for the tent.
