Eleanor Belle Shufro

Eleanor Belle Shufro (nee Feigelman), 94, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away December 24, 2021 after a brief illness. Ellie was born on April 18, 1927 in NYC, to Rose and Julius Feigelman, and later moved with her family to Brookline MA. Ellie & and her husband Harold were long-time residents of Needham MA where they raised their children and operated their family business, Allen Hardware Co. They also resided in New Seabury MA, Jupiter FL, and more recently, Columbus OH. Passing before Ellie were her parents, her brother Adolf, and her loving husband of 67 years, Harold, who passed in 2017. She is survived by son Jon Shufro of Natick MA, daughters Amy (Lou) Stang of Pickerington OH and Carolyn (Rande Jacobs) Doherty of Torrance CA. Ellie was Grammy to grandchildren Seth, Adam & Arielle Shufro; Daniel & Erica Doherty; Dallas (Jayne), Lucas, Lydia, Jillian & Cooper Stang; and great-grandsons Ethan Shufro & Callahan Stang. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She leaves them all with wonderful memories. Ellie graduated from Boston University and worked various jobs in the field of accounting. She and Harold were founding members of Temple Beth Shalom in Needham where she was active in Sisterhood, the Garden Club, and Hadassah. Volunteering and activism for women’s rights were important to her. Ellie enjoyed gardening, traveling, and playing tennis & golf (well into her 80’s!). She had a keen intellect and an affinity for mathematics. She enjoyed playing bridge (earned Life Master designation), Mahjong and card games (into her 90’s!). She was also an avid reader and enjoyed investing in the stock market. She was active and purposeful right up until her passing. Ellie will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, resiliency and love for her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellie’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave., Needham on Sunday, July 17 at 10:00 am. Arrangements were entrusted to Day Funeral Service.
