Judith (Judy) Willidean Mills Jacobsen also known as Willie, 80, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio died September 11, 2018. Her death was not unexpected but came swiftly at the end. Judy had been living with Alzheimer’s dementia since 2002 as well as breast cancer since 2017. Willie was born to the late Virgil and Lutie Mills on November 15, 1937 in Martin County in eastern Kentucky. Willie moved to Columbus, Ohio the day after her graduation from Inez High School. She worked as a telephone operator and lived at the YWCA where she met Don at a YWCA dance. Willie and Don were married on June 5, 1957 and eventually started a family. After living in Virginia, Texas, California, and Florida, Willie settled down in Reynoldsburg, Ohio to be near family while her husband served as a pilot during the Vietnam War. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Captain Donald L. Jacobsen, Vietnam Veteran and wingman; devoted parents, Virgil and Lutie Mills; older brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Mills; son, Donald L. Jacobsen Jr.; and grandson, Kyle J. Marsh. She is survived by daughters, Judy (Raymond) Chaput and Brenda Jacobsen; grandchildren, Larry Jacobsen, Jen Marsh, Sarah Jacobsen, Don (Heather) Jacobsen, Jeremiah (Mary) Jacobsen, Sean (Kierstyn) Jacobsen, and Corey Jacobsen; many great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters who brightened her life: John (Brenda) Mills, Delmar (Polly) Mills, Wanda (Bill) Cassady, and Reba Whitt; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. After her children were grown, Willie was a successful licensed optician who loved working with the people at Lens Crafters as well as all of the customers. Many of her customers sought her out year after year for the exacting and caring service she provided them. She was an avid reader, loved to garden, listened to country music as well as Don Ho, enjoyed family beach vacations, traveled with her sisters, and spent time with her friends and family. Willie was blessed with countless dear and beloved friends. She had more adventures than most and these were always shared with family or friends that multiplied her fun. We will miss her whistle, her smile, her humor, her generosity, and her loving presence in our lives. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at her daughter’s home in Pataskala, Ohio and at her sister’s home in Fallsburg, Kentucky for family members and friends. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice. Day Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Judith Jacobsen.
