Robert Monroe Bates

BATES Robert "Bob" Monroe Bates, 78, went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2012. He was an ever loving, protective husband, awesome father, tremendous friend and confidante. Bob was one of a kind and an all-around great person. He was married in 1953 to his beloved wife, Betty E. Miles Bates who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Vickie Lee (John) Johns of Columbus, OH; sons, Robert Lee (Robin) Bates of Gahanna, OH and Rickie Allen (Karen) Bates of Columbus, OH; sisters, Sue Bates Ennemoser of Gahanna, OH and Ruth Bates (Randall) Deer of Princeton, WV; brothers, Richard Dunham of Gahanna, OH and Billy (Karen) Dunham of Masontown, PA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his mother Edith Jordan Bates Dunham and his father Robert LeRoy Bates, his daughter Fawn Virginia Bates Crane, son Donald Lynn Bates, brother Danny Bates and great-granddaughter Skylynn Bates. Bob previously worked at Omar Bakery, Brown Bros Gahanna Glass and retired from Gahanna School District with 30 years of service where he was lovingly referred to as "Bobber." He was also a charter member of Jersey Baptist Church and worked with the Carpenters of Christ. He will be greatly missed, especially by his loving wife. The family would like to thank everyone that worked with Dr. Elwood and the Zangmeister Cancer Center, Mt. Carmel Hospice, with a special thank you to his nurse, Jenny, Mt. Carmel Home Health, Mt. Carmel Palliative Care, Edgepark Medical Supplies and the VFW for use of their equipment. Also, a special loving thank you to our daughter Vickie, Angel and Bear. Visitation and service will be held at Jersey Baptist Church, located at 13260 Morse Rd. SW, Pataskala, OH 43062. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The service will be conducted on August 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation from 10:00-10:30 a.m. that same day. Burial will take place at Mifflin Township Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements entrusted to DAY & MANOFSKY FUNERAL SERVICE.
